VW Beetles / フォルクスワーゲン ビートル

Okay, this is post just for a blogger friend of mine who happens to be a big fan of VW Beetles.  With that in mind, lately if I spot a VW Beetle, I find myself taking a picture of it.  As my friend is not on any social networking sites, this would be the only place to view my pics.  There aren't that many as yet but its a start.

家族旅行のネタを書く前にブログ友達のため、こういうネタを実行。友達は大のフォルクスワーゲン・ビートルのファンで、最近そういう車見るとつい写真撮ります。 友達はSNSをやってない為、自分が撮った写真は僕のブログで見れるしかない。 そんなにないけど、ま、たまにこういう簡単のネタも良いよね。

Spain Festival [Fiesta Espana] 2013 in Yoyogi Park (Day 2) / スペイン フェスティバル 「フィエスタ・エスパーニア」２０１３ in 代々木公園 （二日目）

This is the last food festival post of the year.  The second day at Yoyogi Park's Spain Festivl [Fiesta Espana] 2013.  After the previous day's reconnaissance mission, I decided it would be best to go early on Sunday and pick out a space where the rest of my friends can meet.  Along with one other friend, we headed towards the festival grounds at 9:30am.  We secured an excellent space and as it was still 10am, most of the food booths and very short lines or no lines at all (except for one booth serving paella), that particular booth already had a long line but we decided to get some paella at a different booth.

これは今年最後のフードフェスティバルネタです。代々木公園で開催されてるスペインフェス、「フィエスタ・エスパーニア」２０１３二日目。土曜日の下見して、日曜はもう一人の友達と朝早く会場に行って場所取りを確保！朝９時半に出発、会場は１０時前に着き、良いところでベースキャンプ作り、まだ混んでない屋台で料理をゲット。あるパエリアの屋台があの時間でもう行列が出来たところもあったが、私たちは別の屋台でパエリアをゲット。

Since I already took pictures of most of the booths from the previous day, I'm going to feature the food straight away!  Starting with the Spanish specialty of paella.

昨日は屋台の写真たっぱり撮ったので、今日は早速料理を紹介します。もちろんはじめはスペインの代表料理のパエリアだ！

I immediately went to the steamed oyster booth for these morsels.

 

昨日も発見した屋台に直行、目当ては蒸しカキ。

 

 

 

Another Spanish specialty - pintxo / こちらもスペイン代表の食べ物 ー ピンチョス

 

 

A nice large platter of Iberico pork / うわ、イベリコの生ハム － 最高！

 

 

This was really good too, especially for a cheese lover like me.  This is a three cheese risotto.

 

これもとっても美味しかった。チーズ好きの僕にはたまらない。 スリーチーズリゾットでした。

 

 

 

 

That doesn't look very Spanish you say?  That's because it is not.  While the Spanish Festival was being held in one area of the park, in another area, the Thai Loi Krathong Festival was going on in another area.  I discovered that this festival translates to "Floating Crown" or "Floating Decoration" and is celebrated by making buoyant decorations and floating them down a river to pay respects to the water spirits (although there is no river whatsoever floating nearby Yoyogi Park!)  By the way, this was tom yam ramen which Mikako had a craving for.

 

あれはあんまりスペインぽくない料理って？それはそうでしょ。スペインフェスティバルと同時に、公園のキヤキ並木のところでタイロイカトン＆モーラムフェスティバルも開催してた。自分はこのタイの祭りは知りませんでした。私は面倒くさがりあなので、知りたい方には〝ロイカトン”で検索して下さい。料理はもちろんトムヤムラーメン。

 

 

More Thai food with khao phat kraphao (I think).  Fried rice with chicken and basil.  That would be my friend's daughter eating the entire egg and asking not to tell on her.

Dessert was a churros with a chocolate dipping sauce (much bigger churros then the one I had yesterday).

 

デザートはチュロスとチョコレートのディッピングソース （昨日のチュロスより大きい）。

I missed the booth selling this soup dish yesterday so I don't know what was in it or what it was called except that it was delicious!

 

昨日このスープを販売してる屋台見逃したので、料理名やなにが入ってるかよくわからない、でもとっても美味しい！

 

 

This was called a tortilla on the menu.  However, it was crumbly and dry with some taco meat.  It could have used a bit more seasoning if you ask me.

 

これはメニューにトルティーヤと書かれてましたが、どうなんどろう。ちょっとパサパサしてあんまり味がなかった。失敗料理だったな。

It appears one of my friends was hungry for some Japanese fare as well and bought a chicken skewer.

What would a Spain Festival be without Spanish wine.  Today's choice was a bottle of Anoranza Sauvignon Blanc.

 

スペインフェスで欠かせないものはやっぱりスペインワインでしょう。本日はアノランザのソーヴィニヨンブラン。

 

 

And more ham, I believe this was Serrano Ham.

Another friend went and picked up more Thai food.  The green curry on the right was nice and spicy.

 

また別の友達がタイ料理を購入。右にあるグリーンカレーは辛くて、美味しい。

 

 

Darn, I missed out on these but by the time this reached our area I was full.

 

残念、これも食べ逃した。もう来た時に、自分はもう満腹でした。

Spain Festival [Fiesta Espana] 2013 in Yoyogi Park (Day 1) / スペイン フェスティバル 「フィエスタ・エスパーニア」 ２０１３ in 代々木公園 （一日目）

This is the last post about food festivals (actually the second to the last) for this year as this was the final one but a first (I think) for Yoyogi Park as I enjoyed 2 days of the Spain Festival - [Fiesta Espana 2013].  I decided to check out the festival on Saturday myself before hanging out with friends on Sunday.  I wanted to take a peak to see what types of foods were on offer and wanted to see how crowded it was so I would have an idea of how early my friends and I should go on Sunday.

これは最後のフードフェスネタです（本当は最後の手前ですけど）だって、二日間代々木公園に行きました。今回の目当てはスペインフェスティバル 「フィエスタ・エスパーニア」２０１３が開催してました。土曜日はちょっと下見に行って前の会社の人と会った。様子をみて、日曜日は何時位に行けば良いかなと思った。

I know chili beans isn't very Spanish either but have you ever tried finding some good chili in Tokyo.  And I noticed that the people running this particular booth were American so of course I had to have some.

 

チリビーンズもスペイン料理ではないけど、東京でチリビーンズの旨い店って知ってる？ないでしょう。この屋台をやってる人たちもアメリカ人だったし、やっぱり買わないっと。

I was joined by a former co-worker (just to let you know those hands aren't mine) and we shared a bowl of something called sopa de pescado which was a seafood soup with shrimp and clams.  Very delicious.

 

元同僚が合流し、一緒にこの美味しいスープを食べました。オマールエビとアサリの業界のスープ。 温まる！

 

 

And since we are at the Spain Festival, we had to try at least one type of Spanish wine.  We tried something called txakoli (pronounced something like cha・ko・lee) from Basque country.

 

せっかくスペインフェス来てるので、もちろんスペインのワインを飲みました。選んだのはバスク地方のチャコリ。

 

 

For dessert - some churros with some Spanish beers - I forget which ones though.

 

デザートはチュロスとスペインビール。

 

 

It was getting a little cold so we had one last snack before leaving.  But instead of Spanish fare, we enjoyed ourselves some takoyaki.

 

段々冷えてきて、フェスを去る前にあと一品。でもスペイン料理ではなかった。今日の〆は関西の定番屋台料理、たこ焼きでした！

Myanmar Festival 2013 / ミャンマーフェス ２０１３

Sorry I haven't updated my blog.  A friend of mine loaned me the entire four seasons of [Burn Notice] and I went on a marathon watching spree which made me neglect my blog, my books, and my habit of renting movies.  But now that I've finished watching the series, I can go back to my normal habits, starting with updating this blog.

ブログを更新せず申し訳ございません。友達が海外ドラマの「バーン・ノーティス 元スパイの逆襲」シーズン１から４一気に貸してくれた。それをずーと優先にしたら、ブログや本、映画などからちょっと休みました。番組を観終わったので、元の生活に戻ります。最初にやることはこのブログの更新ですね。

On a Sunday not too long ago, my wife, along with her sister and nephew went to the Seibu Dome to see Bigbang concert so I was free for the day and there just happened to be a Myanmar Festival going on - not at Yoyogi Park but at Zojoji Temple near the Tokyo Tower.

ちょっと前の日曜日、妻と妻の妹と甥っ子が西武ドームでビッグバンのライブを見に行った。私が一人暇で、その日にまた面白そうなフェスが開催してた。代々木公園ではなく、東京タワーの近く、増上寺でミャンマーフェスが開催してたので、友達も誘って行きました。

My sister feels that the Tokyo Tower is still better looking than the new Tokyo Sky Tree.  I think I may have to agree with her.

自分の妹が東京スカイツリーよりやっぱり東京タワーのほうが魅力的と言う。僕もそう思う。

Another cultural property of Tokyo.  What makes this gate special are the Niou statues which are made of wood.

はい、最初にやること決定！

Drink first - then eat.

先飲んで ー そのあと、食べる！

Okay, the first dish of the day.  Something called chaza hingar - rice vermicelli with a chicken/pork based broth.

はい、今日初の料理はチャザヒンガーというもの、春雨の麺料理です。つうゆはチキンとポーク。

A dessert dish called takubyo - coconut tapioca dessert. Sweet and delicious.

デザートのタクビョウというもの。タピオカとココナッツ。甘くて美味しいよ。

Danbauk - Myanmar style chicken curry.

ダンバック ー ミャンマー風チキンカレー。

Kahkyin style grilled beef bento.

牛肉弁当。

Stir-fried okra and other veggies.

オクラと野菜の炒め。

This wasn't very Burmese but hey, it tasted pretty good.  A chicken burger.

ミャンマーぽくないけどなぜかチキンバーガーの屋台があった。結構旨かったけどね。

I couldn't find the Burmese name of this dish but its a stir-fried noodle dish and we went heavy on the spice again.

Hey, I think that's the tree that President Grant presented to Japan.  I featured it in a post a few years back.

あれ、あの木は確かアメリカの大統領、グラントが日本にプレゼントされた木だ。何年か前にこのブログで紹介してたな。
